I stupidly let my daughter talk me into allowing her to buy a heater and some tropical fish for her tank that has bewen out of action for six months and only ever had normal goldfish in it before.

We have brought fish home still in their bag...(angel fish, balloon molloy??, and some "cute" blue thing). heated the tank, ( a little tap water to heat and mostly fresh rain/tank water)to 28 as per what I could find in a hurry on the internet and then found that I really need to condition the water.

I cannot find the water conditioner that we have as I have not used any for years! Have always just used the tank water for the goldfish etc. before and not had any problems. All pet shops are now closed... any suggestions, please??

Have you got a testing kit? The option is test the rain water for chlorine, or put tap water in the tank and leave it for a day it 2 then test the water. That is all I can think of I'm afraid to say.
But you might be lucky in thatvte rain water might be clean enough for your fishes.

Also how big is your tank?
