I have an assorted communal tank and i think my female yellow platy is either getting ready to give birth or she is hiding. The water stats are:
ph: 7
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 0

I fed them a couple of days ago. She is in with other platys, gouramis, clown loaches and plecs. She is hiding in the floating plants that have come lose. her tail is down and her gills seem pinkish. She is breathing fast aswell. She is normally the most active one. She is slightly pudgy but not overly fat. Ive had preg fish before and she isnt as fat as the last platy. Ive turned the light off and she still stays in the hiding spot. Her boyfriend an orange sunset platy seems to stay with her and then roam off and come back.

Thoughts?

I will upload some pics.

My guts tells me she is getting ready to give birth but she doesnt look big enough to have any fry...

sometimes a small water change can bring on labour. I personally would put her in a breeding trap for a day or two, just to be safe. If you get some pics up, I maybe able to tell how far gone she might be.

don't do a massive water change, just small ones. If you have a breeding trap, the water temp change will be more immediate to the top of the tank

a good thing I would say

Nah the water change was done yesterday :)

There isnt an issue with the temp. I have a breeding trap. But if i put her in that im worried the other fish might stress her because she will be visible to them all. I have a smaller aqua one 320 tank which has plants in it i can drop her in. Its well covered. Just got to move the feeder fish out.

She looks like a fattie in this one...

the seperate tank is a good solution, cuz the other fish might stress her out. especially the males. u should move her ASAP and if u cant do it within a couple days, u should put her in the breeding trap until she can go in the other tank. but try to do it fast, cuz breeding nets and traps tend to stress pregnant fish out more than another tank would. -heart  , ally86ozzy

P.S. wut r feeder fish??

my platty looked like that when she was pregnant.
i think she will be ready to have hers soon.
goodluck with them
keep us updated.

in the last pic, i see another platty.
she looks way thinner than the pregnant one. so maybe you can compare them too. to see how big shes gotten and stuff.
