Hi all,

Just a quick one,

I am looking at re-scaping my tank however I have fish in my tank, is there a way to do this? As I would like to increase the subtrate I have and have soil underneath the gravel, insert stones, replant the plants I currently have, plant more as well, so really its like a new set up.

I wouldnt remove all the water from the tank as I need to keep the bacteria for my fish to prevent another cycle.

Personally I would remove all the plants and decor, catch the fish and put them in a temporary tank for a while. I have a water tank from B&Q that I use for this. Then drain the tank remove all the substrate and put new in. Rescape, replant, refill and then restock once you get it back up to temperature that is.

The good bacteria is in your filter not your water so a 100% change wont enduce a new cycle.

Just keep the filter media wet whilst you do the rescape and there is no harm in removing everything as above.

fantastic thanks for your help!

Is it possible to show a pic of the tank you got from b&q as it will be handy to have espec if I get a poorly fish!

I got a large one at 200l becuase my fish had to stay in it for a few months. You can get much smaller ones in store though .

You could always use a black bin as a cheap alternative
