Okay. We have a 250ish gallon tank sittin in our dining room which we haven't redone since hurricane rita. Tragic story all our fish died including about 20 of my dad's kois. The tank's my dad but he's letting me re-scape it and I wanting some suggestions on what kind of cichlids and scaping i should do. :D

I was thinking maybe Pile rocks for most of the tank and we have a huge piece of limesotone i think in there. (the one with holes) which i was going to keep.

as for the fish. I'm not really sure which ones would be the best!

What do you want?

Lots of fish?
Few big fish?
Many colors?
Cool behavior?

A 250g? Wow so many options! Are you thinking Tanganyikan or Malawi?

I would go for a colony of 12 fronts (best fish I have ever had), with a smaller breeding group of others, maybe c.moorii or yellow labs, as well as a few ancistrus sp and possibly a couple of calvus....

Are you thinking species tank?

Well i'm not home right now but the dimensions are about 6ft long, 2 1/2 ft-3ft tall, 1 1/2ft wide. This is just a rough guess. I can find out exact dimensions when i get home.

I don't really want a species tank because a variety is always nice! I want alot of smaller sized fish. I'd like a tank with intresting behavior!

can i just point out by your measurments you just gave us i used 6ft by 3ft by 1.5ft your tank has a capacity of about 203 u.s g while after decor roughly it'll be 182 u.s g

but i'd go with a lake Tanganyikan over malwai personally.

i'd love to see some fronts aswel in the tank.

:good:

To tell you the truth I'm not a big fan of fronts! I'm looking something that doesnt get as large either. :/

I wonder why everyone forgets about the other mbuna out there...

theres cynotilapia afra (too many variants to name here) great colors, nice small size!!

theres Tropheops (once again, too many to name all here) another great colored fish and smaller in size...

get 100 or each Tetra type... it would be verry colourfull... or a tank full or rainbowfish and killafish

wheyou get bord of them then just chuck in a couple of pahranas.. then a baby croc then you can make some nice boots.. then start all over again...

Ok

I would go for several types of small fish that school together then chuck in some angel fish.. they will scholl if 10 angel fish are in there.

:)

your dimensions, at 36" high would give you 168 uk gallons and 2001 us gallons. if your tank was to be 30" high it would be considerably less. but I would agree with big mamma, in a tank that size you could keep a far greater variety of mbuna, some of which mentioned, I have.
