hi

Probably a silly beginner question but....

i'm going to be cycling my first tank soon

i feel so daft asking this, but will algae grow if i have fake plants in my tank?
or is this just a hazard of tanks with real plants?

jst so i know

thanks in advance

There's many types of algae, some grow on any surface, including your silk plants.

Difference being that silk plants can be taken out and cleaned more easily. HTH.

I don't know, I have one silk plant in a small unplanted tank and it ended up with diatoms and staghorn algae on it. Not looking too great, just brown and ugly and, well, fake. It's got to go. I may as well have a pretty plant with ugly algae on it than an ugly silk thing with algae on it, IMO. And planted tanks do not have to be overrun with algae.
