Hello newbie here so bear with me.

I have a standard Fluval 2 filter operating on my tank and have just installed an airstone, however, will the airstone bubbles prevent the inlet section of the filter from filtering correctly and therefore prevent it working efficiently.

It seems to me like it will but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks

I might be wrong but i'm sure the oxygen from the airstones will be beneficial to bacteria as they need oxygen to reproduce but i may be corrected......................

It was more to do with the currents being produced by the bubbles rising and therefore pushing the current away from the inlet section on the filter where the water is usually sucked into.

There is nowhere else to really place the stone.

Thanks

oh-i see where you are coming from now- As long as the pump is MAINLY pumping water and only a little air - dont see it being a problem - but it is a water pump and it could be damaged in the long term by excessive air-On some filters you can connect the air tube to the outlet on the pump which sprays air too- I have a fluval 2 pump-on this on the outlet you have a blue turn knob which you can undo and providing this is in the air above the surface of the water will draw air in and straight out of the outlet with the filtered water without being filtered.Oh and by the way because of the air being drawn in i dont need to use an air pump-just a thought!

Thinking about it the Fluval 2 has that little blue pipe inside the outlet pipe which I suppose you could use if connected to the airline. Is that what you're saying ?

Thanks for your help.
