Hi jeff here again, your advise was to run a external along side an internal for two weeks. this i am doing as i have set up an external on both my tanks. How do you know whether the external is fully operating or not. I added both sponges out of my fluval2 plus filters in each ex, i was just curious as to know if they are both opperational.

I just kept testing my water and everything was fine on the tropical tanks I seeded but I had problems when I changed to an external on the goldfish tank - it went into a mini cycle but the goldies seem to have come through it ok.

After two weeks everything should be ready to go. Keep a close eye on perameters for the first couple of days anyway, just to make sure.
