My MG boy just got his fins healed over, then he got 4 rips in the tail today. Any suggestions to stop it? The filter is not strong, the plastic plants are not sharp in any way my other bettas didnt rip their fins on them. Its just the little kid =/ his colours are stunning just that he's a little uncareful with his tail :grr:

-rocks,

-ive heard of fish resting on the heater and peices of the tail get stuck or something like that

:grr: You need to have a serious talk to him, tell him he will have nothing at all in his tank if he doesnt stop it!. I use no plastic or silk plants now just that parrots feathers weed 'cos it floats niceley just below surface and they can rest their lazy bums on it!

Is he within sight of any other male bettas, or does he see a reflection of himself anywhere? He might be blowing his tail. Sit and observe him for a little while and see if he's flaring excessively. I'd also take the plants out just as a precaution and see how he does without them. Mephisto's fins began tearing when I had plastic plants in with him, but once they were taken out he was fine. Ariel, however, never tore his fins on plastic plants (I took them out anyway). :)

My boy Logan Dante used to do the same thing, but he'd still managed to blow out a tail before I bought him. He's a tough little man now, though! He even flares at me sometimes.

 Could well be from flaring too much, although one of my boys spends most of his flaring at absolutely anything and has never once blown his tail or other fins. Yet some of the other boys, much better behaved have done so. :dunno: I guess it's down to the individual fish in question.
Dunno if this is true but has anyone found that males that flare when very young seem to develop larger gill flaps then those that do not? Just that those of my boys that flare most often have much more developed gill flaps then those that could care less. Any theories anyone?

well, i haven't really had many bettas from very young as all but one (female) have been from LFSs but perhaps because they could care less they simply don't present as strongly as those who are very adamant about it.

pictures of him =/ he's not showing his blue for some reason

Awww he's a sweety but I see what you mean! He's well ripped that tail. And his anal fin by the look of it. What a beast. Perhaps a drop of melafix would help him along. I've found it good in the past for torn fins.

he is such a litle cutie but such a weirdo. sheesh his fins are healing over i can see the clear parts. but he's sooo adorable

I have to admit a weakness towards the MG's myself although I only have one. I have some arriving soon that I hope to breed from in the not too distant future.
All bettas seem to have such distinctive personality traits it's impossible not to love them. :D

Yeah ok, thank gosh i had like rounded stones in my betta's tank because he just thrased into them o__o i think we've found why his fins are ripped

One of my boys had a perfect tail and then after a water change it was shredded whats strange is that I'd taken everything out of the tank to do a gravel vac so there was nothing for him to hurt himself on but he still managed it! I think that stress sometimes causes their tails to split but they reheal quick enough!
