Hi got 3 platys at the wknd, there bright orange. i have 2 males and one female who is smaller than the two males. the 2 males seem to stick together and the female on her own.
i was just wondering what the best ratio of females to males is?
thanks x x :good:

Need more females too males, as they chase them alot, 2 to 3 females to a male.

Hi,

I totally agree that you should have more females to males. That way the females don't get so hassled.

However I started out with the right ratio but due to deaths, I ended up with 3 females and 3 males. I got really concerned about the fish but after speaking to my lfs and people on here I decided to leave the numbers alone and see what happened. I ended up with no problems at all with bullying. The only time I did have a problem was when I had more males than females. Then all hell broke loose.

This is only my own experience and it would be best to start out with the right ratio but should the worst happen and you lose some along the way, don't get stressed as much as I did about it.

how many platys per gallon cause i have a ten gallon US and I have 2 platys (one female, 1 male) and i wanna get 2 more females by tomarrow.

You should be good once you add in the new ones. Consider you will have fry, and leave some room for them. Most likely you'll want to keep at least a few. :) And it's always good to have extra space for them, should you not be able to sell/give away a few.

This also leaves room, should you want to get a couple other fish.

ok thanks! im moving my 3 female bettas, which are with the platys, to my new tank so its all good when i get the platies tomarrow.
