one of my harlequin rasboras seems to have become the victim of bullying in the tank and is now missing nearly all his tail. He has been stuck to the side of the filter for im guessing most of the day (unfortuantly i was in bed as ive been on nights so hadnt noticed until now). He is still trying to swim around but i dont want to put him but in the tank, my krib had a similar problem before and i managed to get its tail to fully grow back. the problem is i have another tank but i dont have another filter that i can set up, is there anyway that i can isolate him in the tank without using a breeding net or anything? i dont have anything like that in the house just a small net for catching the fish, is there any other items i can use to put him in?

When I have a fish that needs isolating, usually because they have been naughty, I get a clear plastic tub (like the ones that you get strawberries in, with holes in the bottom) and sellotape it to the side of the tank to force it to float, then stick the fish in there for as long as necessary. Get as big a tub as you can so they still have some room.

The tubs with holes in the bottom are best IME as you don't need to worry about the water becoming grim and changing it often - this way they get the same water as the rest of the tank!

thanks for the tip ive got just the thing! i'll give it a go now

right hes now in the tub and securely attatched to the tank. i dont know if the little guy will survive but atleast hes got a chance now. thanx for the quick reply and brillaint idea :)

You can also float a plastic kitchen strainer in the tank to put fish in when you need to isolate them, and there are many sized to select from. :good:

No problem - I hope he makes it!!! Like I said - usually the bully gets contained in my tank!!

unfortunatly he didnt make it, although he was in a pretty bad way. he put up a fight but it was too late. if i'd not been on nights i might have spotted him earlier and been able to help. i guess when you get a group of fish theres always the chance that the runt is going to get picked on
