Here are some photos (some of the only ones on the net, check google image search!) of my wild caught pelvicachromis signatus. They're african rift cichlids, and they're very colourful, these photos will give you a rough idea of their colour, but they won't give you the full story.

The pair

The female. That shine on her side isn't just flash, it's actually iridescent like oil in a puddle. She uses it to "shine" at the male to encourage him to mate (from what i can gather, there isn't much about these on the internet).

Female again. She's the more colourful of the pair.

Another one of the female.

And the male, hiding behind my big male Carinotetraodon salivator (also one of the first imports into the UK)

Hope you enjoy!

Wow, those are rare? My lfs has one and the guy there, Jim, said he had no idea what it was other than it was an african cichilid. Might have to give him the heads up. Or maybe I'll take it for myself :hey:

How GORGEOUS! I love pelvicachromis-type cichlids. The female's shine is BEAUTIFUL. I don't think I've run across the signatus before... good luck with them, and keep us posted !

Make sure the ID is 100% spot on, as there are lots of similar fish. Pelvicachromis roloffi etc

And thanks for the kind words. At some point I'll be seperating these into a tank of their own, so might have a go at trying to breed them.
