Hello, Angel my 6 month old fish has recently been rapidly breathing I only noticed it today she seems to be breathing quite rapidly apart from that shes fine. Today I was quite worried as when I opened the tank lid she wasnt there and she usually dives up to see if its feeding time or what im doing but she didn't I was looking round and then she came out of the cave like thing in the tank, and another time today I couldnt find her and she was in their again, i dont know if shes just resting in their or she just likes it lol.
What could be causing this rapid breathing? The tank is filtered and heated, heat is 80. All the other fish are fine, shes fine just the rapid breathing and staying in the cave more has made me worried. Any ideas?
(Also this morning Angel got pushed by the filter current and got stuck in between the filter side and the tank side I let her get out herself because if i hadn't of been there she'd have to do it alone, that could of scared her?)

is she being chased around by the other girls? more work=need more O2(more breathing). also why she may be hiding.
how is she today?

Nope, shes never really chased she and the other big female are the most dominant shes the one who chases the others but she doesnt chase them as much now.
I dont understand though, the tank has an airstone and filter. Today shes alright shes eaten some pea, but most of the time when i look at the tank shes hidden around the back. Havent seen her be chased atall in this tank only a bit at first but that was when they all first went in the tank.
I can just notice her behaviour has changed because of her staying lower in the tank and hiding but i'm unusre why.
Just going to do a water change now, see if it improves anything.

perhaps she is all settled into the dynamic of the tank and has claimed her "spot"
waterchanges are always good :)
cheers!

Actually i forgot to mention she has the slightest lump ever, her 2 sisters have it and are in QT the other 2 fish in QT have this lump in the same place and now Angel has it in the same place aswell, on another forum we were discussing it and we think its genetic. Also the 2 smaller fish who have it are acting fine apart from they have a lump there being treated with mayzxin and after the course if nothing has changed and there alright then im just going to think its a genetic lump causing no harm, these fish have been in QT just over 2 days now and now angel has the slight lump, its barely noticeable but i just noticed it yesterday also these fish are all from the same breeder and the 2 in QT are 3 months old and Angel is 6 months old.
Going to test the water after i refill from the partial water change.

yh i would just do a water change and see how they look after that. water changes put alot of oxygan in the water so that should help.
:D

Ah! Just gone to get the test kit and the booklets are all stuck together very tightly look as though they got wet then tried, just tried seperating them and one of them ripped! There all stuck so badly!
Now i dont know how much of what to put in the test tube!
I think its part of the API master kit,
I need instructions for how to do, No2 #1 No2 #2, instructions for No3 #1 No3 #2 No3 #3.
I need a new test kit running VERY low now not much left in bottles, but i dont excactly have £29 for one lol!
i have some cards for nitrate but thats a totally different other hting not linked iwth those bottles, will do that but really need them ^
Any help appreciated.

nitrate= shake bottle 1..add10 drops of bottle in tube...shake tube... shake bottle 2 for 30 seconds... add 10 drops to tube and shake...wait 10 min for results
nitrIte= shake bottle. add 5 drops...shake tube...wait 5 min
ammonia= shake bottle 1...add 8 drops...shake bottle 2...add 8 drops...shake tube...wait 5 mins
low pH= shake bottle...add 3 drops. shake tube. wait 5 mins
high ph...shake bottle. add 5 drops. shake tue..wait 5 mins
(even tho the cards dont say to shake every bottle before adding to the test tube, it is best to do so whenever using hcmicals that sit around)
cheers

Thankyou so much! :D Now i just have to work out what bottles what!

if it is in fact API, i should say so on the front of the bottle (assuming the labels didnt come off.
ammonia=NH3/NH4
nitrIte=NO3
nitrAte=NO2
hope that helps.
cant go by color of drops as there are three that go in clear :(
hope you figure it out.
cheers

i know this is a day late but the first set of pics is API brand. you have 2 pH kits. one on left is high pH the one on far right is low pH. five drops and 3 drops respectively. the middle two bottles are for nitrAte. bottle #1= shake breifly and add 10 drops to the water in the tube. cap and shake tube vigerously for a few seconds. then shake bottle #2 for 30 seconds and add 10 drops to the tube. cap and shake. wait 10 mins for result.
as for hte second round of pics, i am unfamiliar with the instructions for that brand :( so i can not give good advice there.
all the best. hope someone cmes along and can help.
cheers
