I'm still a fairly amateur aquarist, so I'm no expert on symptoms of disease...anyway, yesterday I noticied a patch of orange on my (approximately) 7 week old dalmation fry's side in the back, towards her anal fin. (I think its a she-fry, I need to read up on how early you can sex them) at first I examined it and couldn't figure out what it was. just now I took to examining it further. It proved difficult because she's all hyper and such right about now. I can see a few other orange patches towards the front of her body. I'm getting really nervous. :/ I know how to identify some basic stuff such as HTH, ick, fungus, swim bladder disease, fin rot, pregnancy, etc. I have no idea what these spots are though, and I'm terrified.

Hyperion II is the only surviving fry from a group of fifteen. :-( her mommy died a few weeks ago (I have no idea why) I feel so unreliable and...like a bad fish mommy. anybody know what this might be? thanx in advance.

Perhaps it has amonia burns. I have never heard of it happening to live bearers, but goldfish will have light orange patches or spots appear when they get amonia burns.

I don't know exactly how they burns take place, or how to get rid of them since I have never had the problem. I have never heard of orange spots being anything else but amonia burns, unless the fish is supposed to have orange blotches as part of its coloration.

Maybe someone else has more info on these burns.
If I were you, I would check my parameters and keep a very close eye on them.

Sounds like velvet. If you shine a flashlight on her you'll get a better view. Does it look goldish and dusty?

Orange did you say? It could be something nasty, but it might just be pigment. I have a dalmation molly and she has a few orange spots on her, it's just natural. Maybe yours is developing this too, but I'd still keep a close eye on her just in case.

Ifs its dusty and orange it could be velvet but velvet its pretty rare. If you have been doing regular water changes and no new fish have been added then velvet shouldn't be a possibility.

Dalmation mollies sometimes get orange patchs of color. Its more probable if they aren't pure breds as most mollies aren't. Most mollies are mutts so some odd coloration would be probable.
