Ryefish
Fish Herder
If this is in the wrong place feel free to move it.
I am stressing out about this fish.
I got a call from my friend one night after talking about my fishless cycle (something she has never heard about), and she said she had "a fish, called a Ram or something" that needed a new home because he was on his own. I have no idea what type of Ram it is, and no idea if it is actually a male (i have researched sexing the fish, but i haven't actually SEEN the fish yet, so i won't know until next week).
Now, the problem i have is that my tank is only 30L - WAY too small for a Ram, and definately two small to be able to get another one. (here is the part you cringe) My friend says that it is perfectly fine because the tank he is in at the minute is only a 25litre so my tank is fine for him "because it is bigger". I asked whether he had been in with any other fish and the reply i got was "Loads. Loads of other rams, and some tetras, and loads of other smaller fish, but they all died". You are probably coming up with a million reasons why the other fish died, because there is quite a few blatant issues here.
Any information i offer is falling on deaf ears, so the only thing to do is get the fish out.
Im praying that my tutor will take this fish in. She said to me when my friend asked me if i wanted it that i should get him some females (if he is actually male). I will find out on monday if she will take him and discover the sex, but my friend said "if not, we will just leave him where he is"
I have been temped to say yes to this fish, and then re-home him just so i know he is not in a 25 litre anymore, and deal with the questions about where the fish is later.
If my tutor takes this fish, i am more than willing to purchase another fish to go with him (he will be introduced to a community of fish, but im not sure which tank he will go in yet). Im guessing it is the right thing to do to buy another fish? If he is male, how many females is he better off going with?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
