ok so my rams are fighting
I will be adding more plants

should i get more to make it a group - how many
should i get rid of one and look for a female-wouldnt that make it worse (what happend if they mate)

I will be adding discus soon so i want to get this settled before i get them

If they are both males living in a tank smaller than 50g then im not surprised, males are quite intolerant of each other and there will always be one dominant one that will bully any others, i have experienced this first hand and it ended up with a return trip to the shop to take back all the 'extras'. A pair (1 male & 1 female) is a much better and more peaceful solution, adding more males will ony create more problems for you i believe.

Rams are not noted for being the best cichlid parents and spawnings are not always successful. In the instance my fish tried to spawn the female ended up eating the eggs after about 48 hours and they didnt even try again as the male suddenly just lost interest in her.

Ive never kept Discus myself so dont know a great deal about what fish other than cardinals & black phantoms and the likes can be kept with them, i would imagine even Rams may be a little on the aggressive side for Discus to cope with as although classed as peaceful dwarf cichlids they do have a small amount of aggression particularly if they are attempting to breed.

Maybe a Discus expert can advise you better on housing Rams with Discus.

yea it does sound like you have 2 males.

i was in the same situation a lil while back and i had to seperate mine.

there didnt seem to be a more dominant one. they both gave as good as they got lol.

youll have to either seperate them or get rid of one.

if your getting discus then id get rid of both cos like has been sed they mite be too much for the discus if they breed or get terrotorial.

it wouldn't be worse if you get a female and get rid of a male. They will be more at peace. Two males will definatly not get a long. unless you have a huge tank. Keep the dominate one and get a female for him. He'll be much happier. But make sure you get rid of the other male then, or the situation WILL get worse.

Hope you find a good female that your male likes because my male doesn't take to kindly to my female, so i have to get another for him

rams should be in a min group of 6, then 1 individual ram is not the Alfa fish. Also the rams should not be placed together with other fish from the same family e.g. angel fish

Not really, but in a way, they could start like juvenils that what though, just like angels. But when they pair up, it is best to leave them in pairs than in groups. Lucky my male readily takes any female I put with him. :D It's always love at first sight for him

I keep discus, and hae been contemplating adding a pair of rams. everything I've read is that discus and rams should be fine together, particularly if you get larger, older, discus. If the rams are being aggressive only toward each other, I don't think that would be a problem for the discus.
