Hey guys. I've recently fallen in love with rams (through pictures). I've yet to see them in my LPS. I was just wondering if any of you have any that are actually THIS colorful? Or that look like THIS.. I'll be disappointed if they're not really that beautiful in person. :/

Hey BrookeLea.... I know what you means about Rams....they're so beautiful....noy just their looks but personality too. As someone who is ahving major problems keeping them alive at the moment (see my posts)...do loads of research before you buy any.....
Anyway, back to the question....i've only ever seen one Ram that looked like the first pic, in a local shop. It was described as a firemouth ram and looked like a cross between a firemouth and a ram...hence the name, i guess!!

The fish in the first pic looks like a blue ram except for the red on his fins so i'm not sure what it is.
Rams are stunning in person (or in fish).....you won't be disappointed....check out the pics in the species index..

It looks like a Bolivian Ram to me, and i would say the colour on that pic has been edited slightly, i have 2 a male and a female, the male is more colourful than the female, shes sort of pastel looking, very sweet though

Good Luck

I doubt that's really been edited. Having proper lighting, dark gravel, and dark glass walls, will really make your fishs' colours stand out

I agree, that first picture looks a lot like my male. They can definitely be that colorful.

You might find that they're not that colourful when you see them in the shop, but once you take them home and they've settled in then they'll colour up.

Thanks guys! It's been a busy day and I forgot that I had started this topic! haha Anyway, the first pic is of a bolivian ram and the second is of a blue ram.

I've been doing lots of research on them over the past two weeks, and I won't be buying any for another month or so. I never buy any live animal without doing tons of research first!

It's good to know that they really can be that colorful! :D

I still think that first pic looks like it has been edited.

You can do lots of stuff quite easily with photoshop, even my gf can and she only started using photoshop yesterday.

Here is the proof

Before she got her hands on it

and then afterwards

...although oddly enough the 2nd picture is more like they ought to look.

I think the picture the topic creator used, while not nessecarily touched up, is either a bad photo or taken with a specific camera type the picks up the colour more or with a flash so the colours really stand out.

This is probably a better colour quality:

Yeah, I can do that sort of stuff in photoshop, too. I use photoshop professionally and I took many courses on it in college.

Thanks for posting that last picture! They're really gorgeous fish!
