Do they have much nice stuff over there? I go to the one in Havant sometimes, its OK but nothing particularly unusual.

I go to Havant, I also go to the chichester one too. I have found the Maidenhead Aquatics are very similar to each other.

Hey folks,

I've been around nearly all the fish shops around the hampshire/wiltshire area and have found that Porton Aquatic and Pet Centre is the best. They have been in Practical Fish keepings top 40 shops for the last two years and are also in the readers top 20, so thats got to say something. Its just off the A338 north of Salisbury, which is about 40mins from where I live in Southampton. Its very well sign posted if you go along the A338. The place is huge! They have a massive range of hardware, food, test kits etc. which are all at internet prices and their selection of fish is amazing!! They have about 100 tanks maybe more for Tropical and Marine and the fish are the best quality that I have seen anywhere. In looking at all of the tanks I only spotted one dead fish and that was in quarentine. They have every type of fish you could imagine and when I went apparently they didn't have that much according to the staff.

They have very kindly reserved a beautiful pair of blue rams for me and have said they will keep hold of them till my tank is ready. I have a new setup so its going to be another couple of weeks before I do, gonna add some harliquins first.

I asked lots of questions when I was there, about the fish and plants and got very good correct answers. They will even supply an insulated box and heat mat for me to take the fish home in. This is where I'm going to be buying all my fish from, highly recommended!!!!!

Also if your into reptiles, spiders, scorpians and other things like that you will find they have an excellent section of them also. They had a massive yellow boa constrictor, nearly crapped myself when I saw it lol!

The Fairoak one is the only Maidenhead FS I have visited,so dont know what stock the others keep. They had a big delivery of Angels and Rams. There were lots i n each Tank(perhaps to many)!!!
They looked in good condition though.

My LFS has a wide range of Chichlids, and has some beautiful Bolivian Rams..... Very nice :D

He also has Firemouth Chiclids too, they are very cute.....

Its in Mexbrough, South Yorkshire, if anyone wants to know exactly where, please pm me...

If any of you are in the area, Pet Price in Albert Road, Portsmouth has all tropical fish half price. He's stopping selling tropicals, since we're on the topic of rams he has some lovely gold rams. And other cichlids, inc. angels, parrots (not dyed, the brownish ones), keyholes, some malawi and kribs (I think, not sure if he had any left).

Thanks for the throught, but I've finished filling my tank yesterday. I brought a pair of blue rams :hyper: and 3 panda cories  .

Cheers anyway

Watch your panda corys carefully as they are one of the weakest corys available... i dont know why but ive known a lot of people have problems with keeping panda corys.

Whilst we are on the topic of Maidenhead Aquatics, i would say they are one of the best chains for tropicals, marine & invertebrates around. I swear by them and my LFS (Mere Park on the A41 Stafford Rd) is one of the best places ive been to (certainly one of the best in Shropshire). So anyone reading this from the area check it out if you havent already)... plug plug plug :)

I too like Maidenhead Aquatics, I've been to Havant, Chichester, Guildford and Basingstoke, and all have a good standard (IMHO).

As for the Pandas, I've lost two. One a few days ago from a head wound, must have got caught somewhere :rip: . And the second, got caught in the gravel vac when cleaning. He just went down hill for a week and died :rip: . Mind you the three that I got Friday have teamed up with the original one and have formed a happy group. A lot happier than last time! ;)

PS: You don't actually work there, Or are you after some discount  LOL.
