My german rams spawned again this afternoon. The male had mated with another female about about a month ago, but things did not work out so well and they abandoned their eggs. This time, the male chose his sister, and seems to be doing much better with her this time around. They both are guarding and fanning the eggs 2-3 hours after spawning, whereas the female that spawned last time left the eggs immediately after laying them.

I was surprised that my male spawned with the female that was not his sister last time, because she was very small and had just matured. His sister is a little older and larger, and seems to know what she is doing a little more. If they abandon the eggs or start eating them by this evening i might just move the eggs to a breeder tank, but I don't want to encourage fish which are not good parents. IMO watching the parental care is by far the most rewarding part of keeping Cichlids. Wish them luck!

well so far they are still being very good parents and all of the eggs look good. I am very excited to see wrigglers for the first time!

As far as food for the fry goes, I have read several places that Ram fry have mouths too small for BBS so what would be the best alternative to feed the fry?

Lucky you, Waterbox...some pics would be good.. My golden rams are hardly a 'pair' as I chose them from the shop but there is a bit of chasing and sand shifting so I'm hopeful. Good luck with your eggs.

i feed mine on liquifry no1 for the first 4-5 days after which they can eat BBS. they grow quit quickly

This is the female, you can see the pink eggs directly under her, although there are not that many left. The male didn't want to show up for a father's day picture though

Ahh lucky! My rams ate their eggs after 48 hours.

How did you get yours to fry stage? Did you keep them with the parents or just separate whatever they spawned on? If you kept them with their parents, do you have any other fish in with them?
