I just introduced a male and female ram into a 33 gallon tank with a male dwarf gourami.

The gourami chased them a little a first but never for more than a second or two. He mainly leaves them alone now but chases them away if they come near him.

The female ram is swimming around like "normal" but the male is staying at the top of tank at the back (eg in the darker part of the tank) and not really coming to the bottom much.

The tank has bogwood, a cave, some rocks, hornwort, amazon swords and some val - so its pretty well planted (but not totally dense and has some open areas).

Is this normal behaviour for the male ram ? I thought they were bottom dwellers - I'm just wondering if he's scared of the gourami.

I have a largish blue german ram in a 32 gallon tank he swims near the top and chases my tiger barbs around he is perfectly healthy and happy I have had no problems with him he usually swims near the top so I wouldn't be to worried.

Do you have plenty of hiding spots for him however as rams like to hide a bit

I have a few caves and the hornwort seems to be good for hiding in - but these are at the bottom of the tank. Should I add hiding places at the top of the tank ?
