Okay, so I originally had one male Blue Ram and bought a female about a week ago. The male is nearly double the size of the female but I know this is common.
I moved them both to their own 10 gallon tank with the intention of eventually breeding them so I added a few plants, then a peice of bogwood and three plant pots, all at different angles. They both seem to prefer one of the the plant pots - the one that is just sitting on the gravel.
So I was watching them yesterday night and I wasn't sure if they were showing spawning behaviour. The male would sit in his plant pot, occasionally pecking at the sides and maybe sitting on the bottom. Then the female would come along and when he saw her he would either swim off and she would 'guard' the pot as such, or they would both sort of chase each other and peck eachother occasionally - but not aggresively. There are no eggs or nothing.
Yes, the water is soft and acidic.
Is this spawning/pairing behaviour or just naturally what Rams do?
