i dont think i heard anyone talk about blue rams and discus together yet, i have a 29G setting it up for rams possibly 1m 2f and thinkign about putting discus in with them

any feedback?

A friend of mine used to keep this combination and his fish appeared quite happy. His tank was 75 gallon though and he had some pearl gouramies in there too. However, I've never kept either myself (not that crazy about cichlids - I'm more a gourami person :p ) so I can't answer for certain. Theoreticaly, I see no reason for it not to work...

Yes the rams and discus get along. But your tank will not be able to house the discus. It is recommended that you get at least 6 disucs, they like to be with their own kind. Your 29 gal will not be able to house that many fish. You would need a 55 gal or bigger for that.

Now on the flip side, I have a 25 gal. I have one angel fish and one discus. I also have a few smaller fish too. The people whom have discus like I said would not support my setup but when discus are very very hard to get here and have to be speical ordered in I take what I can get. They are also very hight in price too.

Many say that keeping Angels and Discus together are not good. Angels apparently can give Discus a disease. So far so good for me and my two are just the best of buddies. I would love to have another Discus but when I can find one will be the issue.

They say: one adult discus per 10 gal of water. This will give you an idea. So for my tank I would not put anymore than 2 in it and in yours maybe 3 no more than that. Discus like and must have very , very clean warm water. Ph is not that important unless you are into breeding. But the water cleanliness and temp are a must.

Don't forget that when the rams decide to breed they are cichlids too and can get aggressive when guarding their areas. Discus are shy fish and like a quiet tank.

The best setup for Discus is a school of them if you have the tank and in my case I only have one. Then they like to have a nice school of cardinal tetras or other tetras for them to feel safe.

Good luck and hope this help you out, I would be glad to answer any questions you may have. I am very new to Discus and not a professional by anymeans. I have kept and bred lots of fish in my 20 years in the hobby.

good luck...bugsy :D

well i was planning on

3 rams
3 discus
3 corys possibly 4

maybe a school of neon tetras liek you say i was just sitting here looking at the tank yesterday i know it will be a ram in there for sure he is the reason i redid the tank and moved him temporaly into my other 29G

black sand, black background a decent amount of river rocks in one corner a dome in the other corner and a good amount of plants adding 3 discus with their blue would just look great i think

Well you could use that setup but i wouldnt recommend it, when i have my first 29 gallon i have 4 discus and 2 rams with a SAE, and the discus would get sick on a regular base, If any i would recommend getting some dwarfs like apistos in with the rams, or even a fully ram tank. Discus are a school fish and they need that, i know some people keep them in pairs or by themselves but it isnt really that good for the fish.

dont risk it in the 29  theyll get sick and die and need to be around others, why dont you just make it into an apisto or ram tank, like aussie said. it would look nicer and the fish would be much much happier.
only when you hae enough money and space and you can get a 55 gal you can have discus

money isnt the problem, but space is i just bought a 55G with kribs, yellow labs,2 afr cichlids (unknown) and bunch of smaller guppies
