my female ram will not eat at all. she will look at the food ad not do anything. does anyone have any suggestions as to what are the best foods for them and what they are attracted to. thanx :D

Please tell me more about your ram. Is she new to the tank? How long has she stopped eating? What are the water readings?(ammonia, nitrite nitrate, ph, hardness)

I feed my rams with Tetra Tropical and Tetracolor Tropical flakes. I also gave them a treat (frozen blood worms or frozen brine shrims)

the female stopped eating about a day and a half ago and now the male is chasing her around a bit. the tank is totally established and the ph is at 7.0. :D . i got her 3 days ago so she is kind of new to the tank

good water.. .. no physical injury, I assume.

My guess is the hardness. Rams like soft water. Probably the hardness at your pet store is different from your tank. As you might already know, rams have limited adaptibility to different environments. Some rams are more sensitive than others. This ram may be having a hard time adjusting to yours. The stressed ram may stop eating.

Another posibility is the competition. If the rams haven't yet paired up, the male will consider her as an intruder in his teritory and will keep chasing her. In this case you need to provide her a place to hide. Lots of plants will help. Try to arrange the plants, so that there are separate compartments in the tank.

In both cases, an unhappy rams will turn pale with black vertical bands. The dosal fin will point toward the tail.

This is all i can think of. Somebody might come up with a better advice. :/

Hope she's ok soon. Ram is one of my fav fish.

ps. If not too much of a trouble, you may want to lower the PH a bit. PH 7.0 is the upper bound. I have heard someone successfully keeps ram at 7.8. The natural habitat is midly acidic though.

Also, check the temp. Rams prefer water that is 80 degrees or higher. I suspect that as the new addition she has not yet "bonded" with the male.
