O.k then, I am starting to stock my 80 litre tank.

I have 2 x platys, 2 x endlers, 3 x corys and 3 x rams one is european (?) and 2 are golden these are causing me problems.

I initially only got one as that is all the lfs had so when they had stock a couple of days later got another as had read they need to live in a pair atleast.
The one already in situ has taken a dislike to the new one and they live at oposite ends of the tank.

I really want them to be friends, I have taken them out and rearranged the tank and put back but they still are not happy so tonight I have taken them out and put in a complately different tank but they are still at opposite ends.

HELP anyone Please.

Rams are dwarf Cichlids, you get pairs not groups. You should have 1male and 1female thats it.

that is what I wanted but as the lfs only had one of each that is all I could get, as soon as they had more stock i got another and still need one more european to make a pair.

one each - meaning one european and one golden

You would be best posting this in the right fish section of the forum.
Good luck.

Sounds like you have two male rams that don't like eachother, that's the only thing with cichlids they can be territorial and scrap a lot.
You could try breaking up the landscape so they cannot see eachother as often, but you may need to separate them if the fighting gets too bad. :good:

Thankyou so much for your reply, thought I had popped off to coventry then!! I may take them both back and ask for a pair then?? I have tried re-arranging the tank but they still ignored each other, they just sit at opposite ends of the tank!

If they are not aggresive towards eachother I would hang on for a while, it might not be love at first sight but they may be a male and a female.
A trio is a funny number though and you could take a chance on a fourth and hope to get two pairs, but again you may need to keep two pairs apart especially
if breeding starts.

o.k, how do I tell a male and female apart?? One has a bright nose and is slightly larger thats the only difference I can see? Also I hope to get another european ram at the end of the week when they have more stock in, whats the best way to introduce him/her Please

Hi, Thanks for answering in any case, I posted on the "correct" forum and someone there told me how to sex them and it appears I may have 2 males!
