Geo. Origin: Orinoco River basin, in the llanos of Venezuela and Colombia
Taken from cichlid-forum profile page, and from doing various net searches I came up with a list from the locations rams are found (orinoco, venezuela and columbia).

Cory's:
Corydoras habrosus - Source LINK
Corydoras venezuelanus - Source LINK
Corydoras brevirostris - Source LINK
Corydoras trilineatus - Source LINK

Tetras:
Columbian Tetra - Source Fish Lore Tibia Website"]LINK[/url]
Pristella Tetra - Source TFF LINK
Green Neon tetra - Source TFF LINK
Rummy-Nose Tetra - Source ZipCodeZoo LINK
Cardinal Tetra - Source FishBase LINK

Just a few selections there, would depend on tanksize to what fish/amount you can stock but I think you have a good SA biotope there. Phew, took me a while with all that formatting, beware all of the above fish are found where rams are, but you might not find the corys with the tetras if you know what I mean.

I may be wrong but I think the German Blue Ram is a specially bred captive variant?

Regardless - I love the fact that you want to set up an appropriate biotope. I try to do the same wherever possible :)

What size tank are you looking to keep the rams in, glendale? Make sure the rams are the dominant fishes in the tank.

Please, oh please let that not be true, after all the formatting!

Though you may be right:

There are also a variety of cultivated forms of M. ramirezi, the ones most common in the trade appear to be the gold form, the German form and the balloon form. Interestingly, for the purists among us, wild fish are still imported on a regular basis from Colombia.

I still think the biotope idea would be nice though, as the GBR (M. ramirezi if I'm right), did originally come from orinoco river/venezuela. I'm not really clued up on dwarf cichlids, so if someone who does know abit about them would like to contribute would be helpful to get things cleared up.

Thanks for that shroob.

My tank is a Planted 65ltr (50W x 49H x 34L cm). Here is a picture of the tank

Yeah shroob, I think it is unfortunately :( Otherwise I'm not sure where the German bit comes from?

But yeah it's still an awesome idea. That tank is very pretty btw glendale, nice work :D Personally I'd suggest just buying 6 to 8 rummy nose tetras - I think that'd be an excellent looking little setup, and biotope too.

They come from Rio Orinoco, as shroob pointed out, and they're small enough for a cute little shoal :)

thanks for your replys

how does this sound

2 Rams (Rio Orinoco drainage & Rio Meta system in Venezuela & Colombia)
6 Corydoras axelrodi (Meta River basin)
6-10 Axelrodia riesei (Ruby Tetra) (Upper Meta River basin)

or

2 Rams (Rio Orinoco drainage & Rio Meta system in Venezuela & Colombia)
6 Corydoras habrosus (Upper Orinoco River basin)
6-10 Cardinal Tetra (Blackwater rivers and streams in Brazil, Colombia, Guyana and Venezuela)

Either of those setups would work glendale, you just need to decide which you prefer :) Either choice would take the tank up to its maximum load.

Oh, also depends what fishes your LFS has in stock I guess :)
