I tried 2 Golden Rams - a colour morph of the Blue Rams.
Both died inside 3 weeks.

I've had appisto Nissjeni's for a couple of months now and they're doing great.
Blue Rams are definitely harder to keep !

ive had blue rams and gold rams none lasted more that about 6 to 9 months, i think they dont like hard water, ive had lots more luck with bolivians, they last years, maybe its where they are bred i dont know, gourmis are the same ???

I've been out of the hobby for a long time (how did 15 years fly by so fast?) but I used to keep Rams in a mixed tank back in the dark ages. They were a little picky about cleanliness, but I had pretty good luck keeping them alive, and they even bred in a tank that was probably overcrowded. I wonder if the "modern" fish bred in Thailand are less hardy than those I bought back in 1980ish?

I found myself looking at used tanks on Craigslist today, and I'm reading this forum. I wonder if I'm getting sucked back in?

would one bolivan ram do ok just being on its own....along with a community?

2 or 3 woorked for me, i found that they coloured up alot better when in groups, and a lone bolivian ram would be dull.

If the tank is big enough I suppose you could do it.

Kribensis pairs a very good parents and WILL breed in almost any tank conditions. They become very protective and can take over a tank once they have spawned, they will continue top spawn every 4 - 6 weeks afterwards. Dont get a kribensis pair unless you can rehome the 100,s of fry you will end up with.

Never owned bolivian rams so I cannot comment on their individual behavior.

my tank is a 4ft tank and i only have 2 catfish and 6 live bearers in it at the mo!,but i aint got anything to rehome the fry with,what about keeping a couple of males or a couple of females?(seperatey).i dont know if id really want to breed these fish as im from a small town and would probably struggle to get the fry rehomed when they become bigger,
