hello

ive come home tonight and my female ram is swimming at the bottom and every now and then has a swim round the tank but her tail is closed up..... whats this mean?

shes a golden ram.... all the other fish are swimming and are happy including the male

your temperature is too low, it needs to be 28oC but what other fish do you have? before turning it up. test your water and post back, are you doing weekly water changes? how long has the tank been setup?

i work away but do 2 big water changes at the weekends so will do one tonight....

neons tetra
x ray tetra
lemon tetra
bn catfish
red tailed black shark
2 rams
2 shrimp
2 dwarf gourami

havent got a test kit, silly i know, everyone else is happy in the tank and fine

i would consider rehoming the rams, or some of the other fish you have, rams do not cope well at low temperatures, there digestive and immune system slow down, and this can cause problems, do a 20% water change and consider rehoming them or getting them a tank where they can be kept at that temperature

awww..... will do a water change tonight and then considerate it then....

25/26 isnt that low IMO, mine were perfectly happy in 26c. Truck where did you read this information, as you seem to use it alot and its not something Ive heard of before or every experienced a problem with?

Stonedcamel: What size is the tank? How large is the RTBS? Is there any chance, even if you havent seen it, that the could have been bullied either by the other ram or the RTBS? Do you have seperate territories for them? When was your last water change? How long has the tank been set up?

it has been mentioned on many other forums, and web sites, if you read up on the german blue ram, you will see that in the wild they come from some bodies of water with temperatures of 33oC

the tank size is 260l and the pair have been happy in there for a few weeks ive had them, dont know if they are a proper pair because dont spending all the time together.... anyway!

no, the shark keeps himself to himself and no territories seem to have been made or if they have there is no bickering. last water change was last sunday and was approx 40%

species of ram and other tank buddies, read up!

I have read lots on them, owned several GBR's & Bolivians, like I said, never had a problem with them, whilst in the wild they are in different temps, ph's, alkaline, acidic water etc etc, most available from LFS are tank bred species and are not bred in their 'recommended' stats as per different forums/sites, each of which will give wildly varying 'must have' conditons.

Any other signs of distress, aside from the clamped fins? How is her colour? Is she eating?

she seems ok and swims round a little bit havent noticed her eating yet, she seems ok and all the others are ok in the tank, active as usual + the male ram looks ok and swimming round as normal. could it be that time of month lol

will do a water change tonight and keep an eye on her, any other advice? much appreciated

ive also read many different things about water temperature
