I've read that its good to have about 5 - 20 PPM of nitrates for a planted tank. Mine is now zero and I'd like to get it up. I've read you can do this by adding KNO3 to you tank I'm just wondering if anyone has a suggestion on which one to buy. I live in the US. I also just bought some iron supplements because with the other kind I had it doesn't raise it enough.

From what I gather, many people on your side of the pond, buy their potassium nitrate and other dry ferts from Greg Watson . Most good gardening stores will sell KNO3 too.

i see you have barely any fish in there. adding fish or feeding more will increase nitrates aswell.
I just added 2 rupper lipped plecos. I'll be adding some swordtails next week or so because I've heard they are decent at removing hair algae from what I gather. I try to rub the stuff off but I can't ever seem to get rid of it's really annoying heh.

I also got my iron level up to around .15 so I hope that will help out my plants. Due the fact I had zero before heh.
