Raising Killis

anyone got any info on rearing killies? do i require a pump for the fry? any info needed, never kept killies before but i hope to be able to raise them from eggs that i buy from aquabid as i realise that the eggs can remain dormant until the wet seasons in their natural habitat.

i have got 2 fry from a batch of killi eggs (getting more soon) i keep them in a 12"x8"x8" tank with just over an inch of water.

the eggs depending on species vary alot in time to hatch. annuals can take months non annuals a few weeks.

got a species name?

but rearing and keeping would be the same right? would i need a pump? what water temp should the water be at?

when rearing i have mine in about 1" of water with nothing else in the tank.

a sponge filter would be ok with 50% water chnages every 4-5 days.

also use plants or spawning mops.

room temp. varies alot in the fry tank as they are only in 1" of water but they are doing fine

Please supply the species name of the Killifish in question, as each species will require different means of rearing and feeding of subsequent fry.
In any case you dont need a large tank such as that to rear 2 fry, a large margarine tub floated in that tank with around 2 inch/50mm of water will suffice in the short term (depending on species) as long as you provide an airline set to a minute trickle, change 2/3 water daily and remove uneaten food.

Fundulopanchax gardneri, there are many different colourations from different geographical locations, any will do but the nicest ones I find are
Fp. gardneri Misaje
Fp. gardneri Murkurdi
Fp. gardneri Jos Plateau
All require basically the same husbandry and are easy to rear.
