I bought 3 Odessa barbs to fill out my school and one of them had raised red lesions on it's skin. Luckily they never entered the tank but I am curious what it could have been. It's something that I have not run across before. There were no visible parasites or fungus. Your thoughts?

Its septicemia to parasties.
How are they acting any signs of flicking and rubbing on objects.
Any excess slime on the gills or body of the fish.
Any laboured breathing.

Is it possible to load a pic up.

I took them back to the store. They issued a full refund. Now that you mention it I do believe there was some labored breathing. The color on the fish was a bit washed out, so possibly excess slime.

: The fish has bloody patches on the skin as if it were sanded or scraped off.
A: Your fish are affected by a Costia infestation. (Ichthyobodo).

Ok it just when you said raised red lesions.
I would phone the store as the tank needs treating.

I did. I know the owner personally and we are good friends. I'll call him and let him know what it probably is so he can treat correctly.

Thanks bunches Wilder :good:

Poor things they sound to in a bad way.
When a fish has septicemia the bacteria can enter the tank from the fish infecting others so it wise to use a med.
