Rainbows?

i have only started recently buying rainbow fish like salmon reds, praecox, etc, but i just cant seem to get them to live along with my other fish, does anyone know why??/, i buy a pair, all is fine, they are a nice size too, not too small, but i go to bed, get up in the morning i have one gone, , starting to get the hump now!!
