Rainbows. M. Praecox. Neon Rainbows

Thanks very much for the nice comments very much appreciated.

I use a canon D400, with a 65mm lens and a flash. I do have a basic photoshop programme too. Don’t know that I have any tips I take lots of photos and am learning to get better pics. The Aquatic photography forum is worth a visit just to see the great pics I learned quite a bit there. These rainbows are similar to others in that they move constantly what I do is aim the focus point at the eye and shoot. Half the pics get deleted as soon as I see them on the computer. These fish like all constantly moving ones do stop for a nanosecond and I snap them then, in the third pic they were still for a second when I took the pic so its quite clear, when they are moving I shoot them and hope for the best. I hand hold the camera for these otherwise I would have to wait ages for them to move into the view of the tripod. I really enjoy trying to get good fish pics so I get a lot of practice, with digital its easy to learn and improve.

Gill I got these guys in the summer so I expect they are full-grown now. They are seem easy to keep and stay quite small.

A few more from the rainbow spat, they were interupted often by the interfering loaches :D

Quite beautiful fish I must say. More than anything I'm most impressed with the clarity of a lot of the pictures. I've always had horrible luck photographing fish.

Brilliant pictures! You are becoming excellent at fish photography Liam! They're wonderful fish too...

I always love seeing your photos!.

I still won't get them that good, but yours have inspired me to get better digital camera, seeing such good pictures makes me hate mine with vengeance.

Great Photo, i wish my camera was half a good! Did she eat it?

I'm thinking of getting some Dwarf Rainbowfish for a tank with shrimp in and i'm hoping they will be ok!

*another hats off to you*

fantastic photography....I was really getting into photographing my tank til it took ill after adding a new fish.....*poo*
hopefully when they are all recovered I can begin again!!! :good:

Thanks again ‘champerpot’ a TFF calendar sounds like a nice idea.
Thanks Jenny I really like what can be done with a dslr even a low end one like mine.
Thanks CrashingWaves,
Cheers mlawson yeah the picures have improved a lot, the photography adds an extra dimension and interest to the plants and fish.
Three-fingers you have always been very nice with your comments thanks. The type of camera makes a big difference.
Yeah shrimper she did eat it, was nearly as big as an adult male cherry, I have some cherry shrimp in the tank, only adults, the young would get picked off if they leave their safe places. If I can catch the females about to hatch eggs I put them back in the shrimp tank until the eggs hatch. The amanos have no problem with them though. I have threadfin rainbows and furcata rainbows they don’t eat the water lice so would be safer with dwarf shrimp.

Thanks hollypOp, yeah its fun photographing the fish!

The last few pics,
One from the fight, a head close up and just a pic that shows the right colours.

Do you do anything specifically with apperture/shutter speeds, ISO level, etc?

Squid

Thanks Straydum, yeah joecoral is right the lens does make a big difference as does the off camera flash.

Squid the ‘fight’ ones were taken on auto as I wanted to get some pics before the fish stopped they don’t often have a spat. I don’t know much about shutter speeds the ISO is usually between 100 and 400 any higher looks a bit noisy and less clean. I don’t know much about photography, I use the P mode as it seems to work well.
Nice santa hat on your cory, very cute :good:

Off topic but a pic I like.

Awesome pictures m8! Absolutely stunning :) Great fish too!

I have a D400 also :) upgraded straight away from the 350 when it came out. I'm off to buy a 65mm lens then lol!

Currently using 28-135mm IS or 10-22mm (usually too wide tho), the f2.8 will make a big diff from 3.5-5.8.

Any other good tips?
