One of my rainbows hasnt eaten in a few days. Checked params. ammonia 0 nitrite0 nitrate 30. All other fish fine so I didnt worry for the first couple days. Today I noticed a sort of threadlike stringy poop hanging out from her lil backside. This alarms me because she hasnt eaten in days. First thing I thought was parasite? Im hoping you guys could come up with something else. Oh yeah, this fish isnt new or anything. She was quarentined for almost a week. Shes been in the main tank about a month since then.

Thanks

it could also be a parasite since the poop is off in color. is it clear or white colored and have you noticed if any of the other fish have this color poop?

The poop is very thin, and whitish to clear. None of the other fish appear to have it. They all eat ravinously when I feed them, except him/her. Could a parasite have been in the fish this long without killing him/her. Now Im worried because I no longer have a quarentine tank. It has been taken over by the misfits. But as I said I did quarentine all new fish for at least a week, and theyve been in the 60 a month since then.

i know that i had a parisite in my tank and it actually transferred to three of my other fish. you can medicate the entire tank but i'm not sure cause it probably would stress the others out. m how long has it been like this?

I had the same problem in my tank, as it was cycling with fish in it... a couple of my fish wouldn't eat, but it was a high ammonia problem. When they didnt eat, their poop was clear and stringy. Now I think they have ick. My point is, I think the clear strings of poop are more an indication that the fish isn't eating right, not of a disease. However, the fact that the fish isn't eating is an indication that the fish is sick. I would guess parasite.

To answer shadow's question, today would be a week without food. I was hoping it wasnt a parasite, but all seem to agree that it must be. This is a big problem as I have nowhere to move her. I just dont want to euthinize her if im not sure. Doh. Now i really dont know what to do. This tank has been set up a while, and ammonia and nitrite are both nil.

I wish there was a pulling out hair smiley.

Sounds really like parasites to me.

There are several good meds out there to treat for parasites, but im not sure which is the best.

P.T.
