Rainbow Shark With Dropsy

So he not showing any signs of getting better.
Slow swelling and popeye can also be symtoms of fish tb.
Lost any fish to being skinny, or bent spines.

Well in the first pic I posted I think he looks more swollen then he does now but his scales are still sticking out just as much. So I don't think he is getting worse but I also don't think he is getting better. Since my brother was away for around 5 days we don't know if the swelling was slow or not but he hasn't had any fish die with bent spines. He has had one die that had gotten skinny before hand but that fish was bought with another fish and they were always hanging out together. When the one died (no symptoms, just couldn't handle the stress from being new I guess) the other one stopped eating and was always hiding until it just died. That all happened a few months ago though.

Being skinny can mean - Not eating enough, old age, internal parasites, fish tb.
What type of fish was it.

I would take a look here.

Have you lost any fish to these symtoms.

Loss of appetite
Progressive thinness
Sluggish movement
Folded fins
Eye protrusion
Dark coloration and granular appearance of the cornea (this is the first sign in Angelfish).
Skeletal deformity
Hanging at the surface
Skin defects, including blood spots and open wounds that may ulcerate
Black spots, or overall dark coloration (in Cichlids particularly).
Fin rot, characterised by the outer rays falling out.
Scales loosening and falling out
General swelling and scale protrusion (as in Dropsy)

Also check all fish for these signs.
Long stringy white poo or clear mucas poo.
Worms prutruding from the anus.
Enlarged anus or red inflamed anus.
Fish being skinny or bloated.
Sunken in belly.
Fish swimming on there sides.
Bent spine.

There hasn't been any other deaths besides the 2 gouramis that I already posted about. But I did just take another pic and now it seems he has redness coming through (internal bleeding?), 2 little black spots and what looks like a loose scale on his belly. This is the last day of medicating with Maracyn 1 and 2 and I don't think it really helped much besides the scales aren't sticking out as much. Is there something else I should try? Maybe something for parasites?

Get a magifying glass and take a look to see if you can see anything under the lifted scales.
Do you keep any snails in the tank.
Bleeding bemeath the skin is h septicemia.
Black spots can be due to snails in the tank or a symtom of tb.

I would take a look here.

Do you really think there is a chance that it is TB? Is bleach strong enough to disinfect everything once the fish isn't in the tank anymore? Could I just pour some in the tank and let the filter run as normal for a while? How much would I need to pour in for a 5.5 gallon tank?

He has never been in contact with snails since my brother has owned him. And he won't come out of hiding right now so I can't really get a good look to check under the scales but from what I can see it looks like the scales have gone down. I don't know if they are back down to normal but they definitely aren't sticking out like they were. If there was something under them would they go back down? Could the bleeding just be because he was so swollen and now he doesn't look swollen anymore? I took another picture, it doesn't really show anything different then yesterday though, it's just a different angle. He also hasn't eaten anything in about a week.

It's hard to say fish tb without tests done on a fish.
If there showing most of the tb symtoms you can say fish tb.
Your fish is showing some signs of being dropsy, popeye, septicemia, black spots.

Once you finished with the hospital tank steralise everything and throw the sponges away.

If the fish dies I would use minocycline or tetracycline but it will wipe the benefical bacteria out in the filter. But if its is fish tb the beneificall bacteria wants destroying anyway.

Get you some info.

Well the fish died the other day, it started having buoyancy problems and I knew there was nothing I could do. By the next morning it was gone :( My brother came by to check on it before I could do anything and he disposed of it. I haven't done anything to the tank yet but unplug the heater and pour in some bleach hoping that is enough to kill anything that the fish had.

You said that water changes is only once a month in that tank?

Could've been poor water quality that caused the dropsy and the frayed fins. If you can't do weekly water changes, then every other week is far far better than only once a month.

Bless Him. R.I.P.
