I have a rainbow shark i just added to my tank and at first he would never leave his hiding spot he even tried to jump out of the tank. I just added 5 tiger barbs and now he actually started coming out a lot. Not to chase them away, but seems to explore more. Maybe he likes the new company! I thought it was a very interesting change of behavior to go from total hiding to now coming out very very often as soon as I added the tiger barbs.

I plan to add 5 more tiger barbs in about a week based on the water readings. I also plan to add a few ottos so my new tank stock will be like this

1 rainbow shark
10 tiger barbs
2 dwarf frogs
3 ottos

What do u think? Do u think the barbs would bother the ottos since they cling to the sides of the tank alot?

How big is your tank (length x width x height)?

I wouldn't put otos with tigers; I'm sure the tigers will upset them, if not pick on them (most likely).

I've got 2 ottos with 7 tiger barbs they are fine together, the more tiger barbs you have the less they bother other fish.

Complete rubbish :D

I had 20 tigers and the little gits still shredded all my bronze corys dorsal fins. The more you have the more chances of one of them having a nip!

I think its entirely down to the reaction of the other fish if they do nip. Corys are just a push over.

I'm afraid I have to agree. I have two dozen tigers and I put three black phantoms (rescues) in with them and the tigers nipped the tails and dorsal fins off two of them and killed the third in less than a day :(

+1. I have a Hi-fin white tetra and the tiger barbs I had demolished them, not to mention they tormented my swordtails and platys

The only fish I've ever been able to keep with my tigers are, for some reason, zebra loach and plecs that are too tough to be bothered by them.

I can only go with my tank experiences I've had no trouble from my tiger barbs at all, had them from very small now large and adult fish.

Thanks for the input i think ill pass on the ottos to be safe. The frogs seems ok most of the time so far thankfully. I'm gonna add a few more plants for extra cover and just stick wit tiger barbs, maybe mix in a few other barbs.
