My rainbows layed eggs last tuesday, which hatched over the weekend. Now they are free swimming and the parents are still guarding them. I have another tank ready, so when should I remove the parents? They are doing an awesome job, and haven't eaten any babies. I just removed the firemouths from the tank because the parents and the Fms looked pretty torn up. The parents and fry are in a 20g long with a clown pleco. Could I just leave them together?

As far as I know Rainbow fish don't so much as guard their fry as totally ignore them. Had they been canabalistic the eggs would have gone long before the fry had hatched. I'd leave them be but keep an eye on the situation. If the worst happens then they will most likely breed again in a short while. Then just do it differently. Just make sure the fry eat well so they grow fast. The bigger they are the lower the risk of becoming a snack.
