Can anyone help my rainbow fish please, it seems to have got a white patch appear on it's side which has some black marks to it and looking at it closely there is some loose skin as well.
It also seems to have it slightly on the other side

Guesses;

another fish pecking at it? You get the occasional plec type that suddenly decides to go for other fish, sometimes at night, often the flatter bodied fish like your rainbow.

Or itching/scraping on something? Any other fish flicking at all? Any hidden sharp edges on anything? a burn? do you have a heater guard?

Is your water quality up to par?

Thanks for your reply

I have one common pec in there but he never even looks at any of the other fish not unless his mouth did slip one night.
All over fish are behaving normal apart from one of the other red rainbows which is very interested in the poorly rainbow and rubbing against it and I have seen it butt him as well but he has done this to some of the other rainbows in there too (butting)
There is a possibility he could have ran into a piece of bog wood but the heater is a rena smart so there is no way he could have been burnt.
I always do a water change every weekend and have no problems with the water

Do you think it will heal by itself or will I have to treat the tank with chemicals? Thanks

If you keep the water quality top notch, then there's every chance it will heal up without problems :)

hello, this fish could benifit from a healing treatment found at all good pet stores. if its just from a fish peck, it will heal fine, but a treatment will help it heal faster, there fore less scaring. keep a sharp eye out for a bully fish in your tank tho :)
