I have a 10 gal. tank that now contains 3 neon tetras, 1 placostamis, 2 fan-tailed gold fish and a floating nusrery with 6 guppy fry. I had the water tested three days ago and it showed a slightly high nitrate reading so I purchased 2 live plants to help correct this. Now my goldfish have taken to staying on the bottom of the tank and I'm not sure if they are sick or if something else is wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are they laying on the bottom, or just swimming more along the bottom? Swimming below may be because you have more nitrate content along the upper regions of your tank. They may be sick if they are laying on the bottom and not swimming.

The first goldfish alone needs a 20gal tank, and 10gal for very other one added, they are massive waste producers and need excellent filters,
Water change and i would really consider rehoming the goldifsh.

What are your stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
That tank is way to small for the goldfish and that filter in the tank will no way be up to the job.

Ermmmm...i take it you do have plans to upgrade the tank soon? -_- :) The plec is almost certainly not suitable for that tank nor are the goldfish. Also the goldfish will probably eat the neon's and the guppies. When i was nine i had a goldfish take eat nine out of the 10 neon's in the tank overnight. I also made the same mistake with the plec as you did(the lfs isn't always right) and i'm going to have to re-home mine once he reaches 8 inches, and you should re-home him or get a new tank well before that(i am also upgrading the tank in-between times).

Even more so in a tropical tank! .

Anyway, what do the goldfish look like, anything diferent about them in the way they look? And what sizes are the all the fish right now? :)
