I was hoping someone could give me an answer before I release "her" into my tank... probably won't happen but I'm going to at least try. I'd hate to try to catch it if it turns out to be a male and tries to kill my other mandarin.

Before I get the Mandarin Lecture, I've got three 10 gallons going with dedicated copepod cultures, my current mandarin eats frozen reliably, and this "girl" has been eating frozen for me at the LFS (I work there). So I think I'm covered and ready to fatten her up.

Thanks for your help!

Yep, thats a female :D
Looks fairly skinny though..will need fattening up :good:

Thanks! My boy was about that skinny when I got him and is doing a lot better. Still not FAT but healthy looking at least.

I also have a pair of Reidi in my tank! :D

We may have already had this conversation about the seahorses, lol.

They're displaying at each other. Is this a bad sign, or do male/female pairs also do this?

Sorry, just nervous because the new one has what looks like a tiny hint of a dorsal spine and I can't find a good photo of a female to compare.

I have a feeling that they do display to each other...from what ive heard.
Everytime i look at my girl, she displays to me :p

bit off topic but absolutely gorgeous fish....if there would be one reason to go marine...this fish would be it..
