Quick Response Please

hi i recently had a female platy that had swim bladder problem and she had lost control of her balance she was swimming at an angle and would then sort of spin around and around. I couldnt tell you if her belly looked swollen cause my platys always look round bellied cause they are always pregnant  . I treated with interpet swim bladder and she was back swimming normally 2 days after and is now fine, only thing i would say is the pictures and video is not very clear, it looked as though the underneath of its belly looked abit red is that the case? If it is you might have other problems such has internal bacteria problems.

hey um sorry for vid quality (my phone) yeah my phone has a little red light that may be the reason it looks red on video but his belly does look a lil bit reddish not to red though, i checked the tank when i woke up and he was just laying there was about to take him out as he looked dead to the world but hes giving it another shot, must be tired of trying to swim normally. he can swim normal then hell go down to the bottom of the tank and just lay diagonally with his nose on gravel and tail at 45 degree. any others got any ideas? or is it swim bladder. all help is appreciated thanks.
Plus ill mention he is only 3 - 5 months old.

oki if i treat the whole tank will this do anything to my filter media or other fish? another thing should i put salt in the tank? i have sailfin molly guppy and tetra in the tank would it be ok to put salt in with these fish?
thanks.

if you have carbon filter then you will have to remove it, sometimes meds take oxygen out of the water as long as you have a pump or movement of your water that should be ok. Most meds do recomend you add salts for them to work at there best but i didnt add salt when i treated my platy cause i have clown loaches and a plec and plecs dont like salt. Even though i didnt add salt the swim bladder treatment worked fine on my platy and without any effect to my other fish. I started to notice a difference the next day. It got to the point before i treated her i was going to put her out of her misery i thought i wouldn't be able to save her but a last minute attempt with the treatment saved her. I am so glad i didnt put her to sleep.

thanks for the post boeing, uhm unfortunately my filter is carbon :( so what shall i do? i have an other small tank (not set up) as i have another filter but no heater so how shall i treat him and not kill my good bacteria?

Thanks.

sorry not quite sure about that one, unless you know someone that could lend you a spare heater or you are willing to buy one. Maybe someone else could shed some light on this for you. It probably would be best to remove him into his own tank using some water and gravel from you other tank you could always leave the new tank set up as a hospital for the future, Sorry i couldn't help you any more i am still learning but this forum has helped me loads hope someone else can help Best of luck :good:

thanks for your help boeing! i think ill set up my little tank and use it as a quarentine/hospitol tank and buy a heat obviously on so short notice i take it ill just transfer som of my tank water to my other tank? doesnt matter about cycling it ryt now as i am treating him?

thanks.

you will have to test the water regularly and frequent water changes. If you are lucky your fish will respond quikly like mine did you could put him back to your other tank then do a cycle on the new tank ready for the future. There is an article about fish in cycle on the forum somewhere, but hopfully he wont be in there long enough to worry about any real effects of the cycle i think water changes are the key. Good luck
