I have 7 Tiger Barbs. I have noticed that a few of them have begun staying at the top of my tank (10 gallons). They look like they are gasping for air. I noticed one of them doing this a week ago and the next day, he died. I did a partial water change. Things seemed fine for a while until this week. All of my nitrate levels are fine. What could the problem be? Thanks!

Are they the only fish in the tank? You mention nitrate - but what about ammonia and nitrIte levels? Have you checked them?

B) Having only 10 gallons in a tank i would do 25% water change every week and make sure the water is being oxygenated well :D

Heya. I'm new to fish, but I have had Tiger Barbs that did the same thing. They all died, unfortunately -_- . I found that when this happened, the nitrite levels were really high in my tank. Nitrites make it harder for fish to breathe, as does ammonia, so I would also suggest you check those levels.
