My new tank is currently converting 5ppm ammonia to 0ppm in about 72 hours. Every time it gets to 0ppm I'm adding enough ammonia to push it back up to 4-5ppm and then testing every day until it goes down again. The nitrites and nitrates are through the roof at the moment and I was wondering if there is something I should be doing to get them down? Or is it better to wait for them to come down on their own?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would try and keep the level up, instead of waiting for zero .... other than that, its a waiting game - it cannot be rushed, and DO NOT be tempted to add wonder cures to speed it along - they are a waste of money IMHO.

If you could get some "seed material" from an established tank, that would nudge it a bit.
