Just a quick question about filtering

The recommended GPH for a filter is 10 times the size of the tank (i.e. 30 gallon tank, 300 gph filter?) right?

Half that should do unless it's an overstocked tank or the inhabitants are particularly messy fish.

Thanks, my tank is a bit overstocked (I couldn't resist, but its not overstocked that much) so I was thinking of getting the Aquaclear 70 for my 29 gallon tank.

Actually it's 5 times (minimum) but 10 is much better. It's always better to over filter. My tanks are in the 7 to 8 range.

Thanks again for replies. Anyway, I'm gonna change out my crappy filter for a good filter right now, I'm gonna get the Aquaclear 50, or 70. I have to figure out how to change filters though without creating a mini-cycle, but I'll ask for that later.

Thanks for the quick replies again on my topic that I had to bump up.

I've never had an AquaClear but I think they have lots of room for media. You should be able to dump/put the media/cartridge/whatever from your current filter into one of the compartments. That should prevent any minicycle.
