Hey there,

I broke my gravel cleaner by forcing a plastic tube in...

I was wondering If I use super glue to fix it, when using it again to clean gravel, would this cause any effects to the water?

Thanks in advance.

:)

You'd be better using silicone to fix it. Not sure if super glue would have any effect on the water/fish. I wouldnt have thought it would once it has dried hard but with silicone it would be fine

Also I am changing the gravel I think now anyway...

I am currently cleaning the new gravel...

However, Should I change the gravel but keep the water thats in the tank or should I perform a full 100% water change?

I'm also in the process of bringing down my Nitrite from 0.50ppm to 0ppm...

Would this work? or would I have to start my cycle all over again?

(I have two guppies in the tank at the moment...)

I would move the guppies into a bucket and cover it to make it dark. Make sure they are not kept in there for too long.

I'd completely empty the tank, it should help with your nitrite problems.

Empty the tank of all water.
Keep the filter in a bucket of old tank water whilst your are doing the change over.
Change your gravel
Refill back up with fresh, dechlorinated water that is temperature matched as close as you can get.
Put your filter back into the tank
Float your 2 guppies on the top in a bag of old tank water and climatise them as you would when adding new fish, add a cup of the new tank water to the bag every 10/15 mins and leave an hour or so before releasing into the tank.

Changing the gravel may have a small effect on your cycle but not too much as 99% of the beneficial bacteria is on the filter media and the fact your having trouble anyway with the nitrites, it would probably be beneficial.

Thank you :)

I have washed out my gravel until the water is clear...
I have then put the gravel into a clean bucket and filled it with water... and tested the water.
This is really to just reassure myself that the gravel is o.k...

I will then do as you have told me to :)

Fingers crossed :)

Will update once I have completed the Gravel change, and then again once the fish are in.

Most probably on this page: Bringing Nitrite Levels Down
