I am breeding guppies and am setting up a 10 gallon tank for the fry and was wondering if there is a chance I could have a betta in there too. I had one 2 weeks ago and lost him due to fin rot(he had when I bought and never noticed until it was to late.. tried to save him but didnt make it.)

It would be a long while before I get another but if I did would he be able to stay with the guppy fry? There will of course be floating plants at the top for the fry as protection anyway but I dont know if he may still go after them..

Bettas are carnivorous and will eat fry. They will also attack grown guppies, although some have been known to live okay with them.

So no, unless of course you dont want the fry any more :p

While it is true that bettas will eat fry they wont eat all of them, at least in my experience. I used to try and use bettas as guppy population control when i kept guppies. I can say that bettas were not very good at the task. They would only eat the slow deformed fry but the rest were always fine-the betta gets lazy and ignores the "normal" fry who generally can swim away faster and find a place to hide. have lots of plants and you should be a-ok.
bettas are really not the ravenous monsters they are made out to be. In my experience bettas and guppies work out just fine (even with fry).
all the best
cheers

i have kept female bettas with female guppies and fry before, again no problem, i'd just be wary of males with males

If he can stay with fry that would be perfect! I'm ok with loseing a couple considering how many ill probably end up with.. once they arent fry anymore I move them ov course. Theres lots of plants so I'm assuming everything will be fine. And if he munched on the deformed ones that would do me a favor so I wouldnt have to try picking them out and removing them myself.

The last one I had got along fine with the adult guppies.. but I'm thinking that it was because he was sick. I now have 7 guppies in the other tank now anyway so I would be out of the question to have him in there. So I guess now I just have to get myself the courage to actually get one! :S

Thanks everyone for answering. I really appreciate it :)
