Well I have 4 females in a 15 hex...heavily planted ith driftwood hidey holes...
And due to and extremely unfortunate string of events, involving a large steel birdcage, a Great Dane, and a very stressed owner on crutches, completely destroyed my two 5 gallon tanks that had my males in them. I threw one in my 55g comunnity, and the other is sitting in a cooking pot from my kitchen filled with water from the 55.

Well my question is, can the other male be put in the hex with the girls? It would only be until Sunday when I can get a ride to the LFS to restock my tanks...my three quarentines have pacus, triggers, and chichilds, respectively. No way a betta could be held in one of them for at least a week.

(Thinking of starting a fish rescue with all the new fish that have been given to me....Im up to 11 fishtanks....ugh!!!)

LOL, that sounds like an interesting story. Please tell us more :)

The other male should be ok with the females but you would have to watch them for the first few hours. If they get along fine then they should be ok together. If he or the females feel stressed then they might rumble. Some males are fine and others aren't, it depends on the fish.
You could just put the male (that is being cooked on the stove) into an icecream bucket and float that in the main tank. You can use a clothes peg to hold it to the side of the tank. If you don't want to do that put it in a 2litre bucket and stick it somewhere warm, on top of the fridge usually works well.

I'm up to 16 - join the MTS club :)

If you put the male in with the females for a week, you will have problems. A few hours, yeah. More than that, no way. In a 15 gal he would take their continued presence to indicate interest in breeding... the fin nipping would be rather horrifying. A cooking pot isn't that bad to be honest... a 1/2 gallon jar is big enough for a week as long as you change the water daily, use ammonia remover and keep it warm enough and covered. You could also use a livebearer breeding net or trap inside the female tank.

Thanks so much guys....yeah it was horrible....the dog was trying to eat my parrot seed, and my parrot took offense. LOL....So the bird bit the dog through the cage bars and the dane got scared, crashed into the cage, and the cage (which is four feet wide btw) fell ontop of my bookcase....and they both tipped over, which spilled books and tanks and birdseed everywhere....and of course I launched into the pile of flailing paws and feathers to grab my bettas lol...I tossed one into the 55g (thank god THAT didnt crash.....) and stuck one in my waterbottle. Once I saved my rather stressed parrot, my crutches slipped on the water...and down I went lol....My friend came home to me sitting on the floor holding a betta in a waterbottle, having a mini meltdown lol....

In hindsight, it was kinda funny....and I spent the day nailing roofing nails through the bookcase into the wall...And checking water temps and very angry bettas....I needed my pot so I took a chance and put my male in with the bettas...so we shall see...

(I will get pics of the carnage if I can LOL)

Now to multitask my soup making and water changing.....ugh!!

(MTS Club,......woo hoo!!!)

LOL, that's a great story :)
my dogs eat bird seed but they don't try to get it out of the cage. They just walk around under the cage and hoover the stuff up off the floor.
What sort of parrot do you have?

Personally, I would NOT put the male in with the females even for 5 minutes. The damage that could be caused to either the male or the females is not worth the risk. We added what we believed to be a female to our other females and there was full on fighting and lots of damage within hours. The offending female was removed and has since developed into a nice male.

yeah....he was good up until i turnd the lights out....so now my soup is in tuberwares and my male is in the pot again... But i have my new tanks now....Im just giving the media i borrowed from my other tanks time to take...uh this was a nightmare....lol...lets just hope he doesnt learn to jump in the meantime :ninja:
