Hi was just reading a thread about how someone had 33 platy fry. My platies have gave birth only once each but i have only had three then two then two fry . Is this normal ? or is it just because they are giving birth in the middle of the night and eating the majority of them?

I'm guessing eating them. It was only til I found 2 live fry in my filter a couple of weeks ago did I realise we were having babies. I was not set up for fry so released them into the tank but I fear they were eaten. Although I am very new at this fish keeping business so prob wrong :D

Depends how old the females are has well, young females give birth to a few,,whereas more mature females drop a lot more.
Average drops are around 20 fry.

I had a mature blue platy and she dropped 71!!

Fry are good at hiding in plants and substrate, but alot of the time they get eaten, males do follow females around ready to eat fry has they drop and be first to mate with the female...
