might not be in the right area but i fort i would get a better responce

basically i seen a oscar in the lfs (first one ive seen) they had a few babys and few half grown and some big daddy`s

now im thinking about rearanging my tank for one!!

what i want to know is what fish will get along with it that ive already got in my sig??

if i get a oscar i want a baby one so i can watch it grow.

How big is the tank? If its that 75 gal in your profile, what are the dimentions? I wouldnt keep an oscar in a tank that is smaller then 16 inches wide, 4ft long.
You would have to restock your tank in order for you to get an oscar. You could probably have the oscar in your tank with all your other fish for a little while, but eventually (maybe a couple months) you will have a problem. I would go with one of the baby oscars. The tetras will probably be eaten by the fish you have now or will be eaten by the oscar (rehome the neons and hatchet fish if you dont want them to be eaten). The red clawed crab needs brackish water and land to walk on (so you should try and set up another tank for it). The angel fish will probably not be able to defend themselves when the oscar and firemouth cichlids get bigger (rehome these too) The black ghost knife gets around 18 inches, im not sure what the minimum tank size for them is, but it would be fine in your tank for a while (needs lots of hiding places from cichlids). The clown loaches, pleco, and firemouth cichlids would be fine in the tank with the oscar. Eventually you probably will have to get rid of the firemouth cichlids because of aggression between them and the oscar, but you may not have to. If the filtration is very good, you could probably keep the common pleco, clown loaches, and oscar when they are adults.

Hope this helps!

in the fish index its says compatible with clown loaches, BGK, plec,

does any one know about my firemouths??

also are plants a no no??

The oscar would work with the BGK, but the tank may not be able to house the BGK at full size. Also, oscars are messy fish so the filtration would have to be very very good in order for you to keep all of these fish together. You could try to keep plants in there, but the oscar and the firemouths will probably uproot them.

sorry think we must of been typing at the same time..

yeah my tank is big enough

thanks for the quick reply
just trying to find all the info before i go ahead with any change

my crab is able to get out and walks around in the lid of the tank

my filter is a fluval 304 which says suitable for 80 gal so hopefully should be up for the job

so far had no problems with firemouth uprooted plants.

You'd need an additional filter for sure, there's no way that one could handle that kind of bioload in my opinion. If you're looking to have a planted tank you won't be able to with an oscar, it will uproot and/or destroy most plants. I have two pathetic, abused Amazon swords with mine, but that's all he'll tolerate.

Yeah your gonna need alot more filtration. I've heard people complaining about fluval's with big fish.

what filter would you guys recommend??

75 gal is the minimum for the size of the tank that it needs, the only other reason more fish couldnt go in there is because of aggression and filtration. If the oscar tolerates the other fish in the tank, and there is super overfiltration on the tank, another fish could probably go in the tank. If the oscar decides that he doesnt like his tank mates, then the oscar or the other fish will have to go. Im pretty sure he wont harass bottom dwellers though, the clown loaches and the pleco.

cheers 4 all the info

what filters do you people recamend??

I think that your neon will go straight away and a really good filter would be nearly all of the Eheim models. The Eheim's are expensive but they definately do a good job :good:

Oscars are great fish!!! If I were you I would get an oscar and get rid of the neon's, but it is your tank.

2026 Professinel Series II
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO CLEAN ONLY 1 TIME IN 6 MONTHS ??? WELL THIS IS YOUR ANSWER

THE EHEIM PROFESSINEL FILTER LINE HAS BEEN HAS BEEN RATED #1

WORLDWIDE FOR OVER 5 YEARS. THEY HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO PROVIDE YOU WITH TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS OPTIMIZING FILTRATION AS WELL AS EASY HANDLING AND SERVICE

New PUSH II PRIME Pump Head:

Thanks to the ingenious "PUSH II PRIME" pump head, the new Pro II filters are the easiest canister filters to prime. Depressing the pump head automatically activates the integrated priming system, instantly starting water flow into the filter unit. Once the canister has completely filled with water, just "plug and play".

New Maintenance Indicator: Allows a visual check of the current filter condition, taking the guess work out of planning filter maintenance. At a single glance, the position of the flow ball indicates the current filter status

New Auto Valve Release System: Combines quick disconnection and shut-off valves into one easy to operate unit. By simply pulling back on the special combi-lever and releasing the safety latch, the "Auto-Valve Release" system is set in motion. The internal ball valves are closed and the hoses are detached without spilling a drop. Re-attachment is just as easy. Place the auto-valve back into the pump head and push down the combi-lever. The valves are opened and the auto-valve is securely locked in place.

New and improved Impeller Cover for easier access

New technological innovations guarantee optimum filtration as well as easy handling and service.

Streamline squared design guarantees stable footing and greater filter volume.
Fitting directly into the pump head, the newly developed integrated double tap connector ingeniously combines the shutoff valves, the hose connections and the locking clamp into a perfect single unit.
Filter media containers with retraceable handles greatly simplify setup and cleaning of the filter media.
The media containers offer complete versatility in the setup of different filter media.

Thats a pretty good filter, but its pretty expensive. I would get one of the classic canaster ehiem filters, or some of those rena canasters. The rena XP filters work well for me.
