i bought a pair of rams 2 days ago male and female however the male was realy dominant and a fair bit bigger than the female and all he done was chase her and she ended up staying ontop of the filter for shelter. i decided to buy another pair today to take all the attention off the female however the pair was both males. so i have taken the very dominant male out as he was causeing havoc and put him in my sisters tank and am left with 2 males and 1 female. i need another female at the mnoment but i dont want 2 get 2 more males. the female is out now the males i got are the same size as her. the female has 3 spines at the front bigger than the rest which is a male distinction. however i think i have seen females with this before. can someone confirm this please. also what could i feed them to get them into condition for breeding besides making the water softer. thanks

10 gal which is not quite big enough i know but i couldnt stand to see the male bullying and stressing out the female.

that is NO way big enough for 4 rams, take 2 back to the LFS if you want to keep the 2 pairs buy a 30 gallon. there will be constant fighting and aggresion as there will be no space for them to defend territories

there isnt 2 pairs there are 3 rams i put the more dominant one in my sisters 12 gal tank which has mollys and plattys in

there isnt space for three neither. if 2 of the three pair of the third one will be bullied until it dies, either re-home another female or take it back, 38 litres isnt big enough for a pair never mind 3

ok sorry. we all make mistakes ey  i just thought getting 2 more would turn the attention from the bullied female

I have a heavily planted 20g tank and have tried keeping a pair of rams in there. Even with loads of hiding spots, caves and all the plants and bogwood one ram always ends up dominant and harasses the other to death.
