Quick Question About Fluval Filters

Hi I've got a fluval 4 in my tank. My question is.... can the sponges inside be turned upside down because mine get very grubby at one end and are 'clean' at the other end. Will turning them upset the cycle or not? Thanks

Yes mine do it, just turn them over i do.
