Quick Pencilfish ?

Just brought 6 Golden pencilfish just wondering if my Beckfordi pencilfish would shoal with them?

currently the 3 beckfordi tend to go off on there own, would a bigger group sort this? (will be going in the same tank in a few weeks after the Golds have been QT)

It's honestly a bit hard to tell. Sometimes fish will shoal with another species but more often than not they won't. Guess you'll just have to wait and see!

its no big deal if they don't its just that i can get the golds locally but not the beckfordi, will just have to get them online

Do you have the latin name for both types? Because Beckfords pencilfish are often called golden pencilfish, latin name for both types is Nannostomus beckfordi.

Of course, your gold pencilfish may a different species, it's just that I've only come across golden pencilfish that are the same as Beckfords.

Exactly my thoughts. I've only heard of N beckfordi being referred to as golden pencilfish.

well i got the beckfordi off a breeder so know there right but got the 'golds' from my lfs they are totally different

where the beckfordi are grey/silver the 'golds' are a bronze/orange sort of colour

either way they are shoaling together

Perhaps they are just a different colour morph? Whatever they are at least they are shoaling so all's well

Just out of interest, whereabouts ws the breeder you got your beckfordi from?

got them off ebay from a lovely seller that a few people have used on here

Ah, thanks. I tend not to go for fish thru the post as I am never in to receive parcels and don't want them sat in the depot waiting! Maybe when I next get sopme time off work...
